Q. My son is in the process of restoring one of your powerboats, which he thinks is from the 1950s. It is an Elgin Powerboat, model no. 62150, serial no. AT25R0144. Can you provide interior and exterior photographs and other information from the original catalog? This information is needed to restore the boat.
A. Our best resources for information about old products are the Sears catalogs. Model numbers were not used in the catalogs; they had their own numbering system. However, by researching the spring Chicago editions of our general catalogs from 1953 until 1959, we did find motorboats and supplies. Here are pages 908–909 from the spring 1954 catalog, which feature several styles of boat.
